This comprehensive renovation of a 7,000-square-foot townhouse in the Upper East Side Landmark District reimagines a historic structure with a design-forward approach that bridges classic elegance and contemporary living. The project involved a full restoration of the building’s exterior and a complete reconfiguration of its interiors, transforming the residence into a refined and cohesive architectural experience.

The design thoughtfully weaves preserved historic detailing—such as intricate moldings, carved fireplace mantels, and paneled millwork—with a modern sensibility for space and light. A graceful, custom elliptical stair at the core of the home anchors the interior composition, drawing natural light through its sculptural form while linking the vertically stacked floors with a sense of continuity and flow.

Spatially, the layout was reimagined to support modern family living while maintaining the grandeur of traditional townhouse proportions. Formal rooms at the parlor level feature soaring ceilings, restored plasterwork, and curated finishes that speak to the home's historic roots, while more intimate spaces—like the richly paneled library—create moments of warmth and depth. New kitchens and bathrooms are seamlessly integrated with bespoke detailing, tailored millwork, and understated luxury.

Throughout, the architectural language emphasizes proportion, material richness, and craftsmanship, creating a timeless residence that respects its historic context while embracing contemporary function and comfort.
